LactaLogics is excited to announce the completion of our first pilot run of Gentle-UHT aseptically processed and packaged human milk.
Utilizing Tetra Pak’s state-of-the-art pilot plant located in Denton, Texas, we were able to take an important step by successfully creating a commercially stable human milk-based product that kept the “good” stuff in while getting the “bad” stuff out.
“This is an exciting milestone for LactaLogics. In our previous research and development (R&D) runs we validated that Gentle-UHT retains most proteins, immune factors, and HMOs while deactivating bacteria, viruses, molds, and spores,” explained Glenn Snow, LactaLogics Co-Founder and CEO. “But now we are able to show how the processing system can scale, ending the perceived human milk shortage and helping premature infants get access to an exclusive human milk diet.”
During the development of our Gentle-UHT technology, Tetra Pak technology was identified as a key part of our processing systems. Being able to utilize the Tetra Pak food-grade, FDA-approved processing facility allows testing and validation of their ultra-high-temperature (UHT), homogenization, batching, and aseptic processes.
The pilot run also allows us to test, improve, and scale our donor screening, receiving, and testing practices.
“We knew we would need about 100 donors for this initial run,” shared Chelly Snow, Co-Founder and COO of LactaLogics. “But we wanted to ensure we were evaluating and improving from the previous R&D run. From recruiting to screening, quality control to testing, we were ready for the challenge to scale up, developing a more holistic approach to donor care.”
This milestone positions LactaLogics to offer human milk-based products on a larger scale to help more babies have access to a human milk diet.
